Spring Is The Time To Refresh Your Home

Mar 25, 2017

Whether your are selling your home this Spring or just doing a deep Spring cleaning here are 4 tips on how to refresh your home.  As homeowners we tend to collect unnecessary items that we think we will use. But generally the items end up in a closet or box and are never touched. Spring is the perfect time to declutter your home to create a fresh look! By getting rid of the things you don’t use or that are looking shabby and need to be replaced.

Go through each room of your home and examine all of the items. Evaluate them for any broken pieces or if it is something you just don’t use on a frequent basis. If any of these things are cluttering up your home, roll up your sleeves, empty each closet, and appraise the contents by using the following list.

1.  Keep

Make sure your keep pile does not get too big; be realistic, remember the point is to purge your home!

2.  Sell

Consignment stores will be happy to sell your unwanted items — this goes for housewares, furniture, and clothing. All of them will ask for a portion of what you receive; most of them are pretty competitively priced. eBay, Craigslist, and Amazon are also great places to post your unwanted items, while recouping some of your initial investment at the same time.

3.  Donate

This should be your biggest pile. Habitat for Humanity, The Salvation Army, and Goodwill are just a few of the organizations that would love to take your donations. Some will come and pick them up if you are donating bulk items. The amount of items that can be recycled is vast and includes everything from clothes to furniture to appliances. Recycling is the responsible way to purge yourself while saving the planet. Old blankets and throws can be donated to animal rescues and shelters for bedding. Your old clarinet can be donated to a school music program. An old camera and any unused film can also be donated to a school or college photography class. If you are unsure of what to do with your item, go online and do some research

4.  Trash

The last resort should be the trash can, but some items that you are holding on to may just need to be dumped in the trash. As with the keep pile, be realistic if it is unfixable. Get rid of it and free yourself of those things that are bogging down your life and make it a clean sweep for spring.
