The arrival of Spring San Diego always coincides with the opening of The Carlsbad Flower Fields!
I don’t know about you, but seeing all the fresh Ranunculus in brilliant colors always puts a smile on my face! Walking through the 50 acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers that cascade down the hillside and over look the Pacific Ocean, you will feel like you are standing in the middle of a rainbow! Which just might take your breath away.
The history of the Flower Fields are a direct results of over 85 years of floral cultivation that began when Luther Gage, an early settler and grower settled in the area in the early 1920’s. Mr. Gage brought Ranunculus seeds to the area and began growing them in his fields next to Frank Frazee’s small vegetable farm in South Oceanside. This started a business called “Luther Gage Giant Tecolote Ranunculus bulbs”. The name “Tecolote” came from the owls that nested on his property.
Some of the special features at the Flower Fields include a Sweet Pea Maze, The Artist Gardens, American Flag of Flower, a gift shop and festivals throughout the season. There are many other unique events you will not want to miss. Check out the FLOWER FIELDS website for all the details including information on special events and ticket sales.
