If you are a frequent reader of my blog then you know I love to garden. To celebrate Spring, San Diego offers a variety of fabulous garden shows. These tours you can take your time and stroll through wonderful garden paths and admire beautifully manicured gardens, full of amazing colors and beauty. From now until the end of May, dozens of private gardens will open their gates to appreciative visitors as part of 16 unique gardens tours listed below (via San Diego Union Tribune) Many of the garden tours are also fundraisers to wonderful causes in our community. Tickets are available online or at area businesses listed on the sponsoring organizations’ websites.

March 16th
21st Annual Borrego Garden Tour
Six gardens (and three of the homes they surround) welcome visitors for this Borrego Springs-area tour that coincides with peak desert wildflower bloom, This year the tour will include a midcentury modern home on six acres, the home the late Nobel Prize-winner Francis Crick constructed when he was at La Jolla’s Salk Institute and a travel consultant’s memento-filled garden.

March 31st
17th Annual Seaside Native Plant Tour
Plant experts and locals lead this 1½-mile walking tour past 18 front-yard gardens in Oceanside’s historic Seaside neighborhood. Tour goers meet at St. Mary’s School parking lot, 515 Wisconsin Ave., Oceanside. Refreshments sold by neighborhood youngsters.
April 13-14
The Annual Coronado Flower Show
A festive tent in Spreckels Park is home to floral displays, information booths, a beer garden and entertainment. Maps are available there for drive-by visits to winning front-yard gardens around the village.

May 4th
18th Annual Point Loma Garden Walk
This year eight homes will be showcased, some excellent estate sized homes and private gardens, all in the Wooded Area of Point Loma.The Garden Walk features self-guided tours of the private residential gardens, and a fantastic garden boutique as part of the event. Once again this year is the Dana Diamond escorted tour with transportation and lunch. Don’t miss the Garden Boutique

April 28th
Ramona Garden Tour
This year the tour features a diverse landscape around a Victorian home, a view estate next to the Cleveland National Forest. As well as a landscape designer’s home garden is among the eight water-wise landscapes on tour Don’t miss the plant sale, vendors and opportunity drawing at the Ramona Library.

22nd Annual Clairemont Town Council Garden Tour
A dozen water-wise ornamental and edible gardens on tour showcase the canyon, bay and ocean view backdrops in Bay Park, Bay Ho and Clairemont neighborhoods

21st Annual Mission Hills Garden Walk
The theme this year is “Take A Walk Down Memory Lane”. There will be 15 gardens selected in North Mission Hills The gardens will range from compact urban landscapes, sprawling estates and canyon side designs. The event ends at Mission Hills Nursery

May 18th
21st Annual Secret Garden Tour of La Jolla
Destination gardens are not announced until tour day, but past tours have visited both charming cottage gardens and sprawling seaside estates. Special Platinum Tour includes transportation and brunch. Musical entertainment and tabletop displays. New this year is a garden boutique with plants, art and gourmet farm products.
