Looking for something new to do this Labor Day Weekend? How about checking out the longest zipline in California? Right here in Southern California. The one and a quarter mile of cable runs through the scenic mountains of the La Jolla Indian Reservation in North County.
The La Jolla reservation is located a few miles west of Lake Henshaw. Tribal Vice Chairman Fred Nelson says the new La Jolla Zoom Zipline offers an extreme adventure in a beautiful setting. The La Jolla reservation is a few miles west of Lake Henshaw and has long been known for its campgrounds with draw thousands of visitors each weekend to it 2/5 acre area. Nelson says “ We already get 120,000 people each year coming to the campground. The new adventure should add to that.
The zipline was engineered and built with the help of a $1.8 million dollar federal grant and $200.000 from the trice. It’s success officials say could allow the city to build cabins and create a small casino.
The reservation is home to about 465 of the tribes 728 members. It collects no gaming revenue and has been declared a federal disaster area three times in the past 8 years. “But it was those disasters, and the economic recovery grants that followed, that help create the zip-line, Said Tribal Leader Adam Geisel.
The cost is $99 per rider, and $75 for returning campers. Participants must be 48 inches or taller and weigh between 65-275 pounds. Reservations are required and can be made at their website.
